Courtesans and Barmaids

Valletta’s Grand Harbour was a hive of activity under the Knights of St. John’s.  The ports’ importance increased as Malta became the headquarters of the British Mediterranean Fleet; the many ships docking in called for certain services which Malta happily provided.

On this themed Valletta walking tour we focus on this subject during these two significant periods which shaped our history.  You will learn that not all the knights were so celibate after all and that the vow of chastity was often broken.  You will hear real stories and anecdotes of the time when Valletta’s Strait Street, nicknamed ‘The Gut’ was the entertainment Mecca of the Med.
